Weather: Just like everybody in Minnesota (even though we’re a mile south of the border, we like to think of ourselves as being in Minnesota), we’ve experienced some cold and windy weather, along with the first real snow of the season this last week.
What We Did: Mostly, we dealt with the Thanksgiving rush. We love the Thanksgiving rush in our sales to stores – what better holiday exists for foodies? Most of our crew was out sick the week of Thanksgiving, so Chris buried himself in the office work that all gets to running a week or two behind throughout the summer and fall.
Comings and Goings: Chris traveled to Ames, Iowa, and Goodhue, Minnesota to give two presentations in one day the week before Thanksgiving. First, he shared the development of Rock Spring Farm’s washing and packing systems with the Fruit and Vegetable Working Group at Iowa State University – we’ve come a long way from the days of packing shares under our farmers market awning! – then headed north to share financial planning information with the Land Stewardship Project’s Farm Beginnings class in Goodhue. Thanksgiving week he drove up to Paynesville for another Farm Beginnings class. This week he heads back to Goodhue for a follow up session. Kim has kindly picked up the job of making deliveries, which has made being on the road much easier.
